Moving away from looking directly at the PEN, I wanted to put my freshly acquired quantitive data to use and start presenting it as image in illustrator, experimenting with colour and shape. Below is a simple diagram of the colour make up of my pen collection. Each circle representing 2 pens.

Going into more detail I assigned each of my three criteria a colour; C, M or Y and from there started to differentiate between them using various opacities. TYPE and COLOUR both had 8 different categories and LINE only had 4 making it rather easy to percentage out the opacity for each one.

Once I had my method worked out it was a simple case of applying the correct opacity to each colour. I was rather pleased with the results, each triplet doesn't look too far from the last but overall they really start to work, producing a noticeable difference.
