OUGD301 Module Evaluation
Over the period of this module I feel I have produced a fair amount of work that I'm reasonably happy with. I always feel as though more could be done however this module I genuinely believe that I didn't achieve my full potential at all. Time management was one of the key reasons behind this, leaving a lot of my briefs to late in the module for adequate production time.
The Fashion Brand of the Future brief went fairly smoothly achieving what I set out to achieve, which was a clean-cut sophisticated branding for a luxury male fashion company. There are areas of improvement, particularly in terms of print finishes, although on the whole it resulted in a well rounded resolution.
My second brief was 80 Years On, I initially set out with this as one of my main briefs but it quickly took a back seat as it was predominantly research led in the beginning. After collecting a large amount of imagery and research, I found it hard to initiate the design process, getting too wrapped up in my other briefs which allowed to to be more experimental and design led from the offset.
It was poor time management that led me to make the rookie error of again leaving my design production too late and I ended up only mocking up the content of the book. Photoshopping onto a physical mock up, I produced a to scale blank publication as an initial tester but ended up running out of time to get the printed copy made up. Also the content isn't particularly strong, and I don't feel it answers the brief to anywhere near the best of my ability. I find myself getting too engrossed in certain briefs and putting the briefs im less enthusiastic about on the back burner.
It was a risk choosing to pursue the 80 Years On brief as my work isn't particularly typographically led at the best of times, I'm much more of an image based designer and I think that affected my enthusiasm towards the brief. The positives I've taken from that is that I firmly know that my practice is more image based and this will allow me to make the right choices when it comes to my FMP.
Both Loco and Audio/Visual were briefs I enjoyed massively, the experimentation and visual exploration within both had me at my most excitable over this module, both of which were working collaboratively, another element that I know benefits my practice massively. I'm certain that I want to work collaboratively as much as possible from here on in, particularly when it's with the right people, always having another set of eyes and thoughts that are working closely alongside the exact same briefs offering a multitude of ideas and design solutions that one might not achieve working alone.
I kept up to date with blogging visually but let my annotations slip a little too much, not noting down where I made some of my key decisions, and I feel this was again down to bad time management, not allocating time every (every other) day to make sure I'm fully up to date as I go along.
